Xerte Online is a plug in I have developed to bring the Xerte Online Toolkits editor into WordPress.
Version 0.2 which fixes some of these problems has been released 19/2 (UK date format).
This page is here for collecting feedback on the plugin and / or bug reports.

Resources.swf did not copy
i searched all the folder and i found
Resources.swf in xerte-online/activation
may it should be in another place?
Thanks

Hi Irith,
Thanks for getting in touch.
Could you copy all of the activation folder into the root folder in the wordpress site?
Then you need to edit the xerteonline dot php and remove the copy lines.
If this is a bit techie let me know and I will send you a new version.
Thanks
Pat

I did what you suggest , but it doesn”t work
please send me a new version

I keep getting “MKDIR for the languages folder failed” when I try to activate the plugin.Had it working on only the root site of a multisite install with Buddy press a few days ago. Any ideas?
Thanks, the plugin saves me and my staff a ton of time making learning objects.
John
PgogyPat said on February 14, 2012
Hi John,
Is the languages folder in the root?
Sometimes deactivation fails to delete it.
If that fails copy the languages folder from the activation folder.
Then remove the mkdir line from the xerte online php
If that’s a bit techie let me know and I will make a change.
Thanks for the feedback, would love to see the plugin used more.

I received an error msg that my Xerte plugin was missing so I tried to uninstall then reinstall it but got the msg, “MKDIR for the languages folder failed.”
How can I fix this problem and reinstall the Xerte plugin into my WordPress site?
PgogyPat said on February 18, 2012
Hi Donnie,
The folder should be deleted when deactivated.
If not, can you delete the folder manually? It should be in the root folder of the site?
Let me know if you can’t.
Thanks
Pat
Donnie said on February 19, 2012
Thanks Pat. And sorry for the extreme novice questions but that’s my current status.
Am I looking to delete this folder in order to reactivate the plugin? And I’m working in WordPress. Do you mean it’s in the root folder of WordPress?
Thanks,
Donnie
PgogyPat said on February 19, 2012
Hello,
Yes, the root folder of wordpress.
I am making the next version of the plugin today, so this problem will be resolved.
Pat
Donnie said on February 19, 2012
Great. So I guess I will just have to delete the folder for the old plugin and download the new? Please let me know when it’s done and thanks for your help. The plugin has worked great for me.

I’m using WordPress v.3.4, and Xerte v.0.3.
I’ve created my first LO, but when I click Play/Preview I get “Error 404″, and when I click Preview Changes I get “Loading XML” and nothing else – it seems to hang.
Help!
Thanks in anticipation.
PgogyPat said on June 27, 2012
Hello,
Did you “play” the LO on the editor window first?
Could you send me a URL to test?
Sorry for the hassle

Hi Pat,
Yes, I hit Play first.
The LO is here: http://www.bespoke-group.co.uk/wordpress/driver-training/e-learning/e-learning-log-in/
I’ve set it up with a password. Please email me, and I’ll respond with the password.

Hi Pat,
I was extremely excited when I found your plugin, because it is exactly what I have been looking for. It all seems to work well for the LO creation (content buttons, publish, etc.), but when I click play all I get is “Loading XML…” Maybe a similar problem to the previous question? Here’s an example http://www.mediatorsacademy.com/test-xerte. Thanks!
PgogyPat said on August 23, 2012
Hello,
It is probably because the languages folder didn’t copy properly during the install.
In plugins/xerte-online/activation is a folder called languages
Try copying that folder to the root of your WordPress site.
Hope this helps
Pat
Gary said on August 30, 2012
Looks like that did the trick. Thank you!

first let me say this plugin is the best of all. everything seems to be fine except i am having the same problem listed above. i click play preview and all i get is loading xml, nothing happens. i tried copying the language folder as instructed to root of site. there was already a folder there and i just overwrite. still nothing happens. please help me resolve this issue! thanks in advance
mario said on September 13, 2012
sorry for the extra comment but i changed the upload to binary in my ftp software and uploaded the language folder. although the correct file sizes display now, im still just getting the loading xml
PgogyPat said on September 14, 2012
The language folder needs to be in the root of the blog site? So same level as wp-content and wp-admin?
It should work if it is?
Lance Woolf said on September 20, 2012
Hi there, I am running 0.32 XOT (WordPress) and are unable to get sound to play. I want to add narration to each page. I originally had an issue with the language folder which i fixed from info off this page. Could this be related? Is there a fix?
Kind Regards,
Lance
PgogyPat said on September 20, 2012
Wthe languages fix doesn’t alter this
Is the sound an mp3
Lance Woolf said on September 21, 2012
Hi mate,
Definitely mp3, I have tried several different files, encoded by me through garage band and others downloaded off the net.
I add narration as an optional property. upload file ( all seems ok). The controls appear on the respective page, but when i click play, the pause option switches back to a play button.
I have attempted this on several pages with no luck.
Sound is definately turned on on my computer and i can hear the normal click sounds played when I navigate through object with the top right controls.
Lance Woolf said on September 21, 2012
Page two has the file embedded as a narration (non-autoplay) – here-> http://sciencefusion.net/?xerte_online=lo-delta

http://sciencefusion.net/wp-content/uploads/xerte-online/47/media/electricity.mp3
The MP3 is there, it just doesn’t seem to load – could you try emailing the main xerte list http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/xerte – I think it’s a bug in that
Lance said on September 22, 2012
Thanks man, I will give them a try.
Appreciate your help
Lance Woolf said on September 23, 2012
Hi Man (Sorry, Not sure what your name is. Tell me
?)
I have found something interesting.
( and have found a go-around solution to get the files to play )
When I have looked at file directory where the mp3 files should be stored (after uploading via the internal upload button) The mp3 files are not there!
So I ftp’d the file to the same directory and used the file location + media/file.mp3 value for the sound file location field .. and It worked.
So in summary, It appears the mp3 files are being uploaded, but they aren’t :/
I thought perhaps it may be a permissions issue, but images upload and work correctly. *Shrugz*
Not sure where the problem truly lies, but at least that will shed some light.
Thanks!
- Lance
PgogyPat said on September 23, 2012
My name is Pat.
Your website will have a maximum file upload size, which often stops MP3 uploading from working. Your host should be able to tell you how big a file you can upload.
Sorry for the hassle.

Hi Pat,
First of all thank you for the release of this software it looks very good for the learning centre we would like to set up.
I have problem that has been posted previously where it stalls loading XML (blue bar) strange thing with different browsers, you get a different % loading. Chrome, seems to be complete, other between 45%-80%.
I installed the plugin from the wordpress plugin manager, no issues.
I have checked the language folder; .config-316bytes, english-3.588k.
Unfortunately I can not download the files to upload at the moment.
can you advise if there is something I can do with the present install, or is it better to download the complete package and FTP.
Many thanks
Carl

I would FTP if you can. Sorry for the hassle.
Stephen said on October 3, 2012
Same problem here. The plugin installed fine, and all the tools within the editor seem to be working. However, I haven’t been able to play content in any form (publish, play, shortcode link etc). It also displays the Loading XML progress bar and gets stuck – differing percentages depending on how I’m trying to view. I’ve tried different browsers and the Languages folder is in place.
This looks like a terrific piece of software and perfect for what I’m wanting to do. Can’t wait to get it running.
PgogyPat said on October 6, 2012
Sorry for the delay.
If you have chrome could you access a page and see if any resource appears to 404.
Post a link here if you can
Stephen said on October 6, 2012
This is a part of my website where i’m trying to use Xerte via a shortcode link:
http://www.dyski.net/learn-2
I do have Chrome but not sure how to do that…sorry!
Stephen said on October 6, 2012
Ok – it found the following errors…
Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 400 (Bad Request) http://i2.wp.com/blank
FB.getLoginStatus() called before calling FB.init(). connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js:54
Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found) http://www.dyski.net/languages/language-config.xml
So, an issue with the languages aspect after all?
PgogyPat said on December 25, 2012
Yes, does the config path work?
Stephen said on October 6, 2012
Further to the above, I’ve checked through cpanel and language-config.xml is definitely in a languages folder – in the absolute root, but also in www/, public_html/ (I’ve put it everywhere in a vague attempt that xerte will find it). If I type in the url http://www.dyski.net/languages/language-config.xml it can’t find it. I’m not too sure about file organisation on the webserver and how this relates to URLs but try as I might I can’t get it to find the file. I’ve also tried changing permissions…
admin said on October 6, 2012
you need to make sure the language folder (it is in the zip) is the root of the wordpress site
dp_sea_rn said on December 17, 2012
Hello admin, can you tell me where to find the language folder? You mention it’s in the zip but I don’t know where the zip is. I went into WordPress-plugins-xerte-edit and can’t find anything about languages. Thanks in advance!
PgogyPat said on December 25, 2012
In the zip folder the languages folder is in activation.
Hope this helps
admin said on October 6, 2012
activation/languages is where it is
Stephen said on October 13, 2012
As far as I can tell, it is in the root of the wordpress site (www\languages\ amongst other folders such as www\wp_content etc) but no luck. I tried making the languages folder THE root of the wordpress site (thinking that might be what you meant above) but that broke the site. If I try and visit http://www.dyski.net/languages/language-config.xml a WordPress-made page says “Not a valid feed” and it’s still throwing up the same error so clearly can’t see it. The language-config.xml file has full read permissions. I’m fairly new to this website (and WordPress) stuff so not sure what else to try.

hello admin,
I am using WordPress 3.4.2. I tried everything, what is suggested above, but still I get “Resources.swf did not copy. Please copy /is/htdocs/wp1104374_TBFQ9428F3/www/dk/wp-content/plugins/xerte-online/activation/resources.swf to the site root”
Your Plugin is Ver. 0.32.
I am used, that most of the Wp plugins are installed very easely and one must not copying around files and folders.
Is’nt there a clean and easy way, to install this plugin??
I am sorry to say so, but I spent now almost 2 hours with that.
PgogyPat said on October 25, 2012
Sadly this code needs some files to be in the root folder. There is no other way to do it I am afraid. It should copy the files for you, but if your site won’t let the code copy the files, then it will fail.
Heinz said on October 25, 2012
hello Pat,
I disabled the 4 sections around “..did not copy..” and the aktivation is ok now.
Let me see, how the plugin works!

Did the language folder help? Let me know
Rajiv Bajaj said on December 25, 2012
Hi. I recently came across the Xerte plugin while looking for elearning solutions in wordpress. I installed the plug-in, and made sure that the languages folder was in the home directory of the installation. I am currently running wordpress 3.5.
However when I tried to create Xerte post, anything that I try to upload does not complete. For example, when I tried uploading a video or an image, it says upload complete 100% but thereafter the upload dialog does not close and the object does not actually get added.
I thought this might be a compatibility problem with the wordpress version, so in a sub-directory of my domain I installed wordpress 3.2.2 and thereafter installed the xerte plug-in, but there too the same thing happens.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated, as I would love to use this plug-in on my site.
May I also take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas.
Regards
Rajiv

Could you access the page in Chrome – then use the chrome console (press f12) to see which resource fails to load.
If you don’t have chrome let me know or send me a link to check.

Hi,
Wordpress and xerte together? Brilliant. A few queries.
1. The standalone version of xerte allows you to share content with other users. Can you do this in the plugin? I couldn’t find an option for that which is currently stopping me recommend its use to the University.
2. Images uploaded don’t appear to show. Could this be a permissions problem? I remember having to do a horrible chmod hack on the stand alone site to override this. Any ideas?
3. Finally, to upgrade to latest xerte html5 version can I simply copy the latest online toolkits download from Nottingham into the relevant plugin folder and will it work?
Keep up the great work,
Alex Furr
The University of Southampton
PgogyPat said on February 28, 2013
Hello,
1) WordPress has some permissions for accessing each others posts – so the sharing would usually be done this way?
2) Erm – can you see what console says – I’d be surprised but to make the code secure I had to put loads of filename checks in and sometimes it rejects files as they fail security
3) Not tried – at some point I will turn the code over into HTML5 version. You could add a new HTML5 play option if you wanted too? I haven’t looked into it yet as this works enough at the moment

Hi Pat, first thank you very much for developing this plugin.
I was getting a 404 error for some of my Xerte pages, it took me a while to spot the problem. The url link to the Xerte page generated in the iframe is not creating hyphenated urls for multiple word titles.

In fact it seems it generates it from the post title and not the permalink. This also means it may not pick up on duplicate post title names, which also happened to me.
